The
England Rugby League Squad used Yoga as a form of post-match recovery
after their Welsh victory on Saturday. I taught them on the training
camp at Loughborough University Campus. We divided the squad into three
small groups and rotated them with swimming and weights with strength
and conditioner coach Mark Bitcom.
The
boys were in top form after their ten day pre-season training in South
Africa. The boys were very respectful and the integrity towards Yoga was
outstanding.

Due
to the nature of rugby, there is a lot of Fascial tissue in the upper
quadrant area. This makes some of the postures difficult, but we are not
trying to achieve text book postures. It is most definitely about the
journey and the preparation of Pranayama with focus to the end result
being the mind. I taught under the watchful eye of the medical
department including head physio Nathan Mill and manager Steve McNamara.
I
am really looking forward to my second week with the lads, when I am
heading to the new 105 million pound development at St. George's park.
