Well
we've had an exciting Movember month around the globe from celebrities
to sports stars getting into the groove of growing their tache. But what
actually is Movember and what does it mean "Movember
is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men's
faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital
funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostrate cancer and
testicular cancer."
In
today's society we are all quick to judge and pass the book of
responsibility to someone else. We require a
Doctor/Physio/Chiropractor/Osteopath etc etc When perhaps looking into
ourselves would help tremendously, if we could address our habits and
lifestyles cold turkey.
The
west is so fast we have no time for anything or anyone, but we need to
make time. A few facts about how we can improve our health and the fight
against cancer in general. Fat content has actually gone down,
everything is low fat, but then why have we got bigger and more obese?
It's actually the sugar. Buying low fat is the worst thing you can do as
the product will be packed with sugars and artificial sweeteners. Over
the last 20 years, as intakes of sugar go up, obesity rates have
skyrocketed, leading many researchers to implicate access sugar in the
current obesity epidemic.
Yes
the negative effects of sugar even begin before they are turned to fat.
Sugar is the prime energy source for most cancers including prostrate
cancer. Most normal cells can adapt to an environment low in sugar and
use other energy sources- a process developed in evolution when people
would go through periods of starvation. However cancer, which grows
faster than normal cells, does not have the ability to adapt to low
sugar environments. Thus the more excess sugar consumed, the more the
tumour is stimulated. Indeed, several animal studies have shown that
cutting down in simple sugars actually slows the cancer growth.
Excess
sugar intake is further linked to prostrate cancer growth through its
interactions with insulin. Upon consumption of sugar, the body produces
insulin, which helps to break down the sugar, ensuring that the sugar is
stored as needed. When too much sugar is consumed and the body produces
high levels of insulin to help process it, the cells can become immune
to the effects of insulin resulting in too high levels of sugar in the
blood- a common sign of metabolic syndrome and a strong risk factor for
diabetes. As I write this article here today, i'm gobsmacked at the lack
of information given out to cancer patients about sugar, if you need to
have it in your diet buy Stevia.
So key point to remember
- Oxidation and inflammation play important roles in the development of prostrate cancer
- Anti inflammatory and anti oxidant substances found in chemical fruits and vegetables can counteract the damage caused by oxidation and inflammation.
- Carcinogens from charred meat can trigger chronic inflammation in prostate cancer
- Sugar is the primary energy source for cancer and stimulates production of insulin, which is linked to an increased risk of diabetes, heart disease and prostate cancer.
